Anil Aggrawal's Internet Journal of Book Reviews

Volume 2, Number 1, January - June 2003

FROM THE EXECUTIVE EDITOR'S DESK

We need your active participation

Satyabrata Dam - Executive EditorDear Friends

To begin with, let me wish you all A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR. I hope you all have come out of the Christmas and New Year celebration hangovers, and those of you who wish it to continue has taken adequate measures to ensure the same. Along with the year that has just passed us by, we too completed the first year of our eventful journey and can now safely claim to be wiser and enriched of the experience. It has been an exhilarating and educating voyage, along with all of you that only promises to usher in more joy and cheers in the days to come.

With valuable inputs coming from so many of you, we have attempted to diversify and add new sections to the journal, rendering it a distinct flavor of its own. The journal now wears a new look and style as well. The review section features a diverse range of books, incidentally more of non-fiction and concerning general interests, which should be welcome by all those who want to learn of the world around without being subject to too much of technicality. The Featured Book Section brings to you the review of a book in a unique manner; with a more in depth analysis of the book, its author, its appeal, and its relevance in the contemporary context. Pun intended this section actually renders a pathological insight into a literary work. Many interesting links and URLs make it so much easier to know and understand the book in greater details.

... We would like more authors to come forward and write to us to feature their labor of love. Often we do not come across the new authors and their meritorious works since they had not been given adequate publicity; whereas nothing would provide us with more pleasure than to highlight those very authors who the world at large has neglected in favor of those with a more commercial appellation...

The Technical Section is meant for the eponymous reader as the title suggest. Though not all of you would be interested to dip into this section, the ones who do would be richly rewarded with a delectable array of interesting snippets on the issue in hand. The delightfully educative journey continues further with the Multimedia Review, Books on Audio Cassettes and an exhaustive list of URLs to lead you from one site to another in hot pursuit of the subject that stirs your heart and mind.

The Author's Interview section has been revamped and upgraded to make it more informative, exhaustive, and besides being a mirror of the author's literary personality and emancipation, also suggestive of the art of writing itself. Any aspiring author should go through this section carefully and clinically to understand the whole psyche of writing and the so called 'inner calling' to the whole endeavor.

We would like more authors to come forward and write to us to feature their labor of love. Often we do not come across the new authors and their meritorious works since they had not been given adequate publicity; whereas nothing would provide us with more pleasure than to highlight those very authors who the world at large has neglected in favor of those with a more commercial appellation.

The days are cold and short; the nights are freezing and long, and everyone seeks the pride of place beside a hearth with a warm cup of brew in attendance and of course a book open on ones lap. In this world of materialism and make belief there are very few modes of deliverance as pure and pleasurable as the one that a book has to offer. Without much ado, then, let me wish you 'Happy Reading' all through the year and take my leave with a promise that our endeavor to make our journal better and brighter and more worthy of your time and effort would continue unabated. All we need is your active participation, views, criticism and of course whole lot of good wishes. Cheers and happiness.
