We keep receiving books for review from various publishers. However some books are of such paramount importance that we at the journal office thought one review may not be able to do justice to that book. One opinion may be slanted, perhaps by the individual tastes and preferences of the reviewer. Reviewers from different continents, nations, even different parts of the same nation may perceive a book differently. Why not send books to two or more different reviewers and get their opinion. We requested several authors/publishers to do that and they gladly obliged.
In our sister publication "Anil Aggrawal's Internet Journal of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology", we have been featuring books for quite some time now. However in THIS journal, we started featuring books (reviews from multiple experts) only from Vol. 1, No. 2 (July - December 2002). The first book to be featured in our Book Review Journal was The Second Highest World War - The Rama Theatre by Anoop Chandola (Published by Authors Choice Press, an imprint of iUniverse, Inc.). If readers' reactions, and emails are any indication, this feature has been a tremendous success.
One of the most important books to hit the literary scene in recent times is "Last Rites" written by Charles Patterson. It is a novel about Tom Reed, a young man who follows his grandfathers and father into the ministry only to find out he made a big mistake. The novel is moving, funny, irreverent, entertaining, and very readable. It's a story that has never been told before.
Charles Patterson has written eleven books. One of his book, "Eternal Treblinka: Our Treatment of Animals and the Holocaust" was rightly picked by the editors to be reviewed in our featured reviews section. The book is now available in thirteen languages. The editors at the journal office feel, that Last Rites would be similarly - or perhaps more - successful.
A book with such a revolutionary thought ought to be examined by more than one reviewer. We at the journal office sent the book to eight reviewers around the world spanning three continents and five countries. The reviewers were not only requested to send us detailed reviews, but were asked to rate this book on a scale of ten. The following rating scale was provided to the reviewers.
0: Waste of time
1: Of minimal interest
2: Of little interest
3: Of some interest
